Just in the Nick of Time...

Time is a construct that we as humans spend a lot of effort in defining, using, cursing & vilifying, and expending. As we define it, time is a human "invention". In physics, time is a fundamental quantity - a variable to be plugged into an equation or to affect another physical measurement. In quantum physics, time as we know and measure it has been shown not to exist. (see "double slit experiment", if you care to study this - then there is the interpolation of that experiment on light over deep-space distances - but I digress) This post is going to be confined to our traditional understanding and definition of time. I read something years ago about time that was one of those things that stuck with me and affected my thinking ever since. It went something like this: Time is the ONLY thing that is totally equal for everyone. Rich or poor, tall or short, happy or sad; we all have the same amount of time - 24 hours a day, 60 minutes an hour, 60 seconds a minute.
I wrote this last week at 39,000 feet somewhere over the western U.S.A.   Someone just told me - you have to click on the photo to see what I actually wrote! sorry - 11/25/15

Current Events - Part 2 / Follow Up

In the last post I listed a few national issues and things in the news and was going to comment on them. As the post was getting long I decided to end the comments and revisit in another post. Here is that post.  Here are the things I did NOT cover from my opening remarks of last: When half of the population is living off of the other half through government programs, it is time to wake up. When our national debt has grown more in the past eight years than in the total of all years prior in the history of our country, it is time to change things. When people that illegally enter our country are called "immigrants" and offered benefits normally reserved for citizens, we need to wake up. When the First Amendment is used to stifle religious practices vs protect them, we have lost our way. I hope any of you that read and/or have read the posts here know that I try to be fair. Yes, I have my opinions and thoughts about what is right and wrong with our policies, government, e

Current Events

I figured it was time for me to weigh in on some of the issues of the day. When we reach a state where a law abiding citizen that owns a gun is thought to need counseling and a man that wants his penis cut off does not, it seems we have some issues. When a speaker is boo-ed off the stage for insisting that "all lives matter" as opposed to just "black lives matter", we need to reevaluate our thinking. When half of the population is living off of the other half through government programs, it is time to wake up. There are many more, but I think that is enough for

Eggs-ellent Ideas

Sorry, couldn't resist the title. I will admit - it reminds me of Mr. Burns. Being on a low carb diet, I make myself some type of egg concoction most mornings. Adding that to the fact that I have six children, and did many years in the restaurant business, I have cracked and prepared a lot of eggs over the years. Here lately when cracking eggs I always remember and remark to myself how eggs are a metaphor for life. Do tell, you say... One thing that I learned early on (after picking many a piece of eggshell out of the eggs) was that the best way to avoid eggshell in the eggs when cracking them is to just go for it. If you try to be careful when cracking them you are likely to fail. I now can (almost) every time take one hand and just crack the egg on the counter, stovetop, or pan; open, and drop the egg into the bowl or pan without a problem. Again, I learned that just going for it worked better than trying to be careful. Life lesson #1. Also, when making most eggs,

SIGNS OF LIFE

I decided to stay on the light side of things again. (don't fret, I have more of my riveting social commentary on the way soon...) Here are some signs to help us make it through the day. First, some signs that may not be truthful: How about signs that confuse: Now those that are just mocking us! Then, the sign of TRUTH! Have the best day you can have. Remember, laugh!  Life is a sexually transmitted condition that is 100% fatal!

HEADLINES

It is time for some humor. You folks put up with my "serious rants" long enough. These are REAL (or very clever fakes) headlines from around the world: Squirrel 'Detained' by German Police for Stalking Woman Police originally thought she was nuts.  Man Shoots Firework From Top of His Head, Dies Everyone knows you should hold them in your hands! Pittsburgh Man Charged With Robbing Bank With a Sex Toy Too many...Too easy...Insert your answer here (pun intended) Shark Killed in Traffic Crash Let this be a lesson to you - SHARKS CAN'T DRIVE! German Asparagus Pickers Mistaken for Armed Gang Sure, that's what they want us to think!! An expert was called in to confirm! Read the comment in the subtitle.  Who'da thunk it! They consulted with the bug expert I bet.  And finally: Now that is a tough interview - put the rookie on it! That's all for now. SMILE, WOULD YA!! Remember LIFE is a sex

Global Warming Hoax

I tried to come up with a catchy title for this one but nothing came to mind. The overwhelming evidence that the Global Warming/Climate Change hysteria is nothing but a perpetrated hoax intended to change our way of life keeps me from thinking of anything humorous. I have done many posts on this subject over the more than seven years I have been doing this blog. I have statistics, scientific reports, quotes from climatologists and scientists, etc that show that this "crisis" is total bunk. Most of these posts were from figures gathered over five years ago. At that point we had had over ten years of NO WARMING! We now are approaching TWENTY YEARS of no warming and a slight cooling! The stability (or slight cooling - depending on which figures you use) of the global temps has occurred at the same time that the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has grown to well over that "tipping point" of 400 parts per million. From WWII up until the mid 1970s (not meant to be exact

First New Post in a While - for the

This is the first of what I plan to be a revitalization of this blog. I got out of the habit of writing and it is hard to get back going again. There were several requests for the traditional 4th of July post and that got me to thinking. I promise I will do some humor (per request) as well as my normal commentary on life, politics, and the human condition. This one will be kind of a recap and synopsis of my thoughts on all our societal issues. First - a comment on dissent, tolerance, acceptance, and such. To save time - here is a post I did a while back which covers a lot of the above: http://justsomeposts.blogspot.com/2013/07/im-ok-younot-so-much.html and here: http://justsomeposts.blogspot.com/2012/08/39-states.html There are various other posts where I opine about the same. These cover it pretty well from my perspective. For those of you too lazy or disinclined to click and read the above, the gist of what they say in relation to the below is: Tolerance does not mean or e

I AM AN AMERICAN - reposted by request

I just looked and the last post I did was also this one, on this date, a year ago. So, I just made a Mid-Year Resolution - I will start posting again! (YAAAA - GOES THE CROWD!) This is the only post out of the hundreds I have done that I have ever been asked to re-post. I have had at least one request every year since 2009 when it originally posted. Look tomorrow for a NEW 4th of July post. For now, here you go: I am an American. Like the majority of those living in this country, I was born here as were my parents and their parents. Like the great majority of those living in this country, my ancestors were not born here. A direct decendent on my paternal side immigrated here in 1789 from England. However, I am not an English-American or even a European-American. It bothers me to see people described (by self or others) as Irish-American, African-American, Asian-American, or any other hyphenated American. Hyphens do nothing but separate us from what we truly are: Americans.  Like
