Da Da Dum, Da Da Dum, Da Da Dum Dum Dum

I think everyone could use more humor and laughter almost always, but definitely currently. My mind is forever churning and regurgitating thoughts and ideas, most of which shall forever remain in my mind! I did think I would share one with you today and if liked, maybe more in the future! A series of single panel comics that cover aspects that my fertile and fractured mind come up with. As someone that lives alone and spends a very large portion of my life that way, the social distancing that we are all doing now is not tremendously different to me. I feel I might have a different perspective on this situation. So... I introduce to you: THE ALONE RANGER!    If this works, and I can continue with the ideas, this may be another new blog! Your thoughts and comments (as long as they are civil) are welcomed and will be posted.

A Trillion Here, A Trillion There, Pretty Soon You're Talking Real Money!

As I am writing this Congress appears to be about to pass and send to the President to sign, a "bailout" bill to help offset the financial effects of Covid-19. (The Senate has passed their version and it is moving to the House for a vote today) The total price tag is going to be in the neighborhood of $2,000,000,000,000 (two Trillion, with a "T").  That is over $5,500 for every man, woman, and child in the US that will have to be paid back at some point. I wanted to put the amount into perspective. Did you realize that the TOTAL SPENDING of the federal government of the US did not equal or surpass $2 Trillion until 1990. That year the total expenditure was $2.08 Trillion.  Nine years later in 1999 the total expenditures of the federal government equaled or exceeded $3 Trillion for the first time with a total of $3.06 Trillion.  Only five years later in 2004 spending equaled or exceeded $4 Trillion for the first time (helped along by spending after 9-11). The

These Aren't Pajamas! They're Lounge Pants!

With most of us spending much more time at home and school kids among them, I thought I would do a post with suggestions on how to make your time at home "better" - or at least more livable and maybe more productive. I cannot take credit for the origination of any of these ideas, but I think I might present them in a different format and context. People need and crave order and schedules, at least to a point. I know we all crave and enjoy a day or so where we can just crash and not worry about the clock or things we have to do. Unfortunately, we all DO have thing we have to do - even when home. We also have to maintain our sanity and our peace of mind.  So, if you are home from work and "working from home", set up a schedule. It is important that you get up at a reasonable time and go through a "normal" routine of preparing for the workday (or school day - but I will get more specific on that aspect in a bit). Now, if you have to get up at 5 am

Send in the Clones...don't bother they're here!

That title is not totally appropriate of this post, but I have had it in my mind for a while but have not done a post on clones. Since the subject of this post - viruses - mutate (essentially "clone" themselves) and reproduce by asexual duplication (essentially "cloning") this gave me the opportunity to use it. Hey, I like it. I wanted to do an informational post on viruses. There is a lot of concern (understatement much?) today as I write this as we are in the midst of a viral pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19. This is not meant to be a scientific treatise, study, or paper. I will take liberties with certain processes and descriptions, but it is factual to the best of my knowledge and research. I am not a scientist, doctor, or medical professional. I am a lifelong student of almost anything and have studied health/medicine/diseases for most of my life with emphasis placed on this study when my wife was diagnosed with an incurable rar

Going on Record (and it ain't vinyl)

As I am writing this we are in the middle of our latest "end of the world" scenario. The disease Covid-19 (or officially the SARS-CoV-2 virus) is destroying our world. My issue is, most of the destruction is being caused by the overreaction to the disease. There are about 7.7 Billion people alive at this moment on Earth. There are currently under 300,000 cases confirmed of Covid-19 world-wide. That number won't even calculate as a percentage without severe scientific notation (here it is for those of you interested - 3.896103896103896e-5) Even if this gets 100 times worse and we have 3,000,000 million cases it is STILL too small to show up on a calculator ( just drop the -5 to -4 in the scientific notation number - 3.896103896103896e-4‬). If it gets 1,000 time worse that will make it show up on a calculator. It will be 3.89% of the population. So 4% of the population would be infected IF this gets 1,000 times worse (and I will admit, it could). However, based on what t

ODE TO TOILET PAPER

There are things that help distinguish modern living from the past. Some are just so common that we think they’ll always last. We really take for granted most all the simple things. We never stop to appreciate the convenience that they bring. Things like running water, food, and pop. Including paper that we use to clean after our common bathroom stops. We take them all for granted; we seem to forget quickly, that without this useful product we can become quite sickly. But one thing we learn early on: what goes in cannot all stay. The things that we eat and drink Will revisit us in a way. With cleanliness next to godliness And hygiene on our minds, No sticks, moss, or leaves, to clean our soiled behinds. We are all used to special paper to cleans the residue around the delicate area from which we take a poo. When that paper is not available due to madness in our aisles, we worry how to be hygienic at least for a little whil

Two Things Remain After the Apocalypse - Cockroaches & Viruses!

Below are 3 "papers" I wrote for the folks at my work. We import products directly from Asia as well as having our domestic suppliers rely on China for components and finished goods. The Coronavirus is of great interest to all of us for business, humanitarian, and personal reasons. Below are "facts" as far as I could determine. I am NOT a medically trained person. This is NOT meant to be a scientific treatise on Covid-19. I have done extensive research through medical, healthcare, government, and scientific sites; so this IS meant to be as factual as I can make it as an informed layperson. Do your own fact checking and research if you have concerns.  If you want to follow these as I wrote them, the first is actually from 10 -12 days ago and is at the bottom. I added to these twice more with the date at the top. Updated as of March 7 th Here are some additional facts and thoughts as of this morning. The numbers in China have continued to plateau. The new
