Look! It's Another Civic(s - lesson)

A note: If you truly care to learn a (very) basic lesson in the 3 branches of government and impeachment, you may want to read the two previous posts As noted above, this is the third in a series. I have noticed a lot of people that think Trump has been convicted of something or is now being put out of office. Here is a basic explanation of where we are now in this great journey curated by the Democrat party. President Trump has been impeached. I think the confusion comes from a lot of people not knowing what that actually means. Impeachment essentially means that the President (or any other government employee that is subject to impeachment) has had charges drawn up against him. In very simplistic terms the House of Representatives has acted as a grand jury or government attorney's office and determined that a case can (and should be made it the House votes to make the impeachment formal) be made: essentially an indictment. The Constitution left the grounds for impeachment v...

Even More Civics - Still no Hondas!

The Democrats in the House have decided to advance with articles of impeachment against President Trump as I am writing this. Although they could change one, both, or add to them prior to the formal presentation for a vote in the House chamber; the two at this time are: (note: these are NOT to be considered legal presentations or arguments - these are simplifications that are factually presented - as I know them - they are not meant to offer all the complexity or nuances of the actual legal issues) 1) Abuse of Power by the President.     This is related to the call and the claim that President Trump threatened, bribed, or otherwise pressured the President of Ukraine to "dig up dirt" by an investigation into former Vice-President Joe Biden and his son's actions relating to a job his son took in Ukraine. Now, as presented so far, the words - bribed/bribery or threatened/threat do not appear in the written charges. I am using those words based on the numerous press confe...

Civics: Not Just a Group of Honda Cars - Rev 11 6 19

I have tried to somewhat stay away from the political battles going on, but I have been stewing on some "stuff" for a while now. So, here we go... There seems to be a tremendous outcry of things President Trump has said or done in running the government. (an understatement maybe?) Since neither Civics nor Political Science are taught much at all any more I wanted to remind (or maybe let some know for the first time) some facts about how our government was designed and is set up to be run. ( A note: if you are not into a civics lesson and want to get to the "point" of this - scroll down to the line -------- and start there ) Ultimately, but indirectly, the government is run my us - We the People. We do that through voting every 2, 4, and/or 6 years depending on the elected office. However for all practical purposes the government is run by each of the three branches - the Executive, the Legislative, and the Judicial. The Judicial at the Federal/National level...

I look over my shoulder and what do I see? Commies and socialists coming after me...

This is one that I have had in my head for a while. I did some research to bolster my knowledge and facts and then did not do the post. So, I reacquainted myself with some more study and I am actually going to write something this time. This is NOT meant to be an all-encompassing intellectual discussion. There will be liberties taken with some of the terms and thoughts. These are my own. I would hope the spirit of the piece is recognized as being factual even if certain small aspects are simplified or otherwise changed. As long as they are civil, I welcome comments and discourse. With the term "socialist" being thrown around so much these days, I wanted to address some facts and thoughts about socialism. First, realize that both socialism and communism can be an economic system and/or a system of government. Capitalism on the other hand is only an economic system. I am particularly going to address socialism as an economic system. Let me start out by saying that on paper ...

Quiet Voices

This one came to me as I was eating breakfast this morning. I put it together before I left for work.   (click on the photo to enlarge it) If you like this kind of thing, my new book: Curmudgeon Rhapsody is out now at Amazon and Kindle. It has more like this as well as original poems and songs. Also, royalties from sales of the book go towards research and patient support for Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). A fatal rare progressive neurological disease that took my wife's life. Please consider buying one (or more - give them as gifts!) to help.

A NEW BOOK!

My latest book is now available on Amazon and Kindle. It is called: " Curmudgeon Rhapsody ". It is a collection of poetry and other musings from the inner recesses of my mind. As with the first book, any royalties made will be donated to MSA research and support. Please consider purchasing a copy and giving it a review. You can buy it by clicking here . Pass this along if you would. I want to get some more money to help fight MSA. FYI, the first book: " Living With a Snow(wo)man " is still available for sale as well.

Come to the Light!

Anyone notice a similarity between those photos? As I am out and about these days I notice that more and more any interaction that people are having is with the device in their hand and not with the world (or people) around them. Now, I am guilty of this as well, but I do try to be mindful of not looking at my phone constantly. I especially try to keep my phone in my pocket when with other people in a social setting. Cellphones and tablets are interesting devices from a psychological perspective. There have been studies and articles written showing that the "reward" we get from a "like", a text, a tweet, et al, is comparable to a drug. The reward center in our brain becomes "addicted" to this influx of internal "drug". Have you noticed that a lot of people "can't" put their phone down? (can't is in quotes as obviously they CAN do it, but chose not to) Even when in front of someone they care a great deal about or an import...
